Play-by-Play Announcer, Toronto Blue Jays on Sportsnet


Buck Martinez joined Sportsnet in 2010 as the play-by-play announcer for Sportsnet’s Toronto Blue Jays television broadcasts. Anchoring the network’s stellar baseball broadcast line-up, Martinez brings decades of experience to Sportsnet’s coverage of Canada’s boys of summer.

Following a celebrated career in the Major Leagues, Martinez first entered the broadcast booth in 1987 as a colour commentator for Toronto Blue Jays broadcasts. In 1992, Martinez headed south of the border to join ESPN radio and television, where he received an Emmy Award for his work on ESPN’s coverage of Cal Ripken’s 2,131st consecutive game in 1995. Martinez also received a Regional Emmy Award while broadcasting for MASN as a colour analyst for Orioles games.

From 2003 to 2009, Martinez served as a television analyst for the Baltimore Orioles and co-hosted XM Radio’s “Baseball This Morning” on the MLB Home Plate channel.

In March 2017, Martinez will serve as the television analyst for the WBC from Tokyo. Martinez has been involved in each of the 3 previous Classics, as Manager of Team USA in 2006 and in an analyst role in 2009 and 2013. Martinez also served as the color analyst for MLB International feed of the 2016 World Series.

Prior to stepping behind the microphone, Martinez played 17 seasons of Major League Baseball as a catcher with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays. Martinez also acted as manager for the Blue Jays for part of the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
