Bringing a decade of experience and expertise to the studio, Colby Armstrong joined Sportsnet’s hockey broadcast team as a hockey analyst in 2014. Currently, Armstrong delivers the latest NHL news, analysis and insight each weeknight alongside host Caroline Cameron on Hockey Central Tonight.
Prior to his time with Sportsnet, Armstrong played in the NHL for over 10 years as a right winger for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Thrashers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens.
Born in Lloydminster and raised in Saskatoon, Armstrong played junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in first round of the 2001 NHL Draft. After several seasons with the Penguins, Armstrong made NHL history on New Years Day when he recorded the first goal in the inaugural outdoor Winter Classic showdown. In 2008, Armstrong signed on with the Atlanta Thrashers for three seasons, before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2010 and the Montreal Canadiens in 2013. Armstrong announced his retirement from the NHL in 2014.
In addition to on-ice performance with the NHL, Armstrong was a member of Team Canada during the 2007 IIHF World Championships in Moscow and scored the gold medal-winning goal against Finland.
