Since signing on with Sportsnet, Kevin Barker has been a key contributor to the network’s in-depth coverage of the Toronto Blue Jays and MLB. Currently, Barker brings over a decade of first-hand MLB expertise to the radio booth to co-host Baseball Central alongside Jeff Blair on Sportsnet 590 The FAN and across the Sportsnet Radio Network.
Prior to his career in broadcasting, Barker spent time in the major leagues playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays.
Raised in Mendota, Virigina, Barker attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University to play college baseball for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Following his collegiate career, Barker was drafted by the Brewers in the 1996 MLB Draft, where we would go on to make his MLB debut on August 19, 1999. In 2002, Barker joined the San Diego Padres before transitioning to the minor league system. In 2006, Barker was named the International League Player of the Week as a member of the Syracuse SkyChiefs, shortly before receiving a call-up from the Blue Jays in September 2006. During his time with the Blue Jays, Barker was the recipient of the 2006 R. Howard Webster Award as the Triple-A Minor League Player of the Year. Following his tenure with the Blue Jays, Barker would go on to play for the Triple-A Louisville Bats and within the Mexican League before retiring in 2011.
