Eric Smith has been a member of Sportsnet since the network joined forces with the Fan 590 in 2011. Since that time, Smith has established himself as one one of the network’s leading experts on all-things basketball and works as an analyst on Sportsnet’s Toronto Raptors television broadcasts. Smith also acts as the radio play-by-play for Raptors broadcasts on Sportsnet the Fan 590, regularly contributes to sportsnet.ca and hosts Hoops, a weekly radio show.
Growing up in Burlington, ON, Smith graduated with Honours from the School of Journalism at Humber College in 1998. During his time at college, Smith also joined the FAN 590 team as an intern. Following graduation, Smith was taken onboard the FAN full-time as a producer and reporter. Switching gears from radio to television in 2001, Smith joined Global TV as an NBA Analyst for five years in addition to hosting a NBA-sponsored radio program, The NBA this Week. In 2002, Smith also became the host of Double Double on NBA TV Canada and was a guest host and panelist on Full Court Press on the same network. As of 2005, Smith works as a featured writer for the Toronto Raptors website. Currently, Smith is the host of the Toronto Raptors Pre, Half and Post-Game Show on Sportsnet 590 the FAN and hosts the weekly basketball program, Hoops.
Smith’s career highlights to date include broadcasting Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance against the Raptors, calling the TV play-by-play for Men’s Boxing at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
