Among the first hockey analysts to join Sportsnet during its inaugural season in 1998, analyst Nick Kypreos has established himself as one of the network’s leading hockey insiders over the past 17 years. Currently appearing on Hockey Night in Canada, Hockey Central and Hockey Central @ Noon, the 1994 Stanley Cup champion brings unparalleled NHL experience to the Sportsnet broadcast team.
A native of Toronto, Kypreos signed his first NHL contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. After capturing the 1988 Calder Cup with the Flyers affiliate the Hershey Bears, Nick was claimed off waivers by the Washington Capitals where he spent 3 seasons. Kypreos went on to play with the Hartford Whalers before joining the powerhouse New York Rangers for their 1993-94 campaign. Establishing himself as a key member of the Rangers squad, Kypreos went on to hoist the Stanley Cup at Madison Square Gardens in 1994. Following three seasons with the Rangers, Kypreos returned home in 1995 to play his final two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs before officially hanging up his skates in 1997.
Over the years, Kypreos has enjoyed several career highlights including covering International Hockey at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto. He also contributed to Sportsnet’s junior hockey broadcasts, appearing on the network’s coverage of the MasterCard Memorial Cup and Subway Super Series.
