Play-by-Play, NHL on Sportsnet

Bringing over 25 years of broadcast experience to the table, Rick Ball signed on with Sportsnet in August 2014 as the play-by-play announcer for regional Calgary Flames broadcasts.

Prior to joining Sportsnet, Ball served as the play-by-play announcer for the west coast games on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada alongside analyst Kelly Hrudey.

A native of Kelowna, B.C., Ball jumpstarted his career in broadcasting when he became the play-by-play announcer for the Kelowna Rockets following his graduation from BCIT in journalism. Following his time with the Rockets, Ball went on to work at Victoria radio station CFAX before signing on with freshman station Team Radio in 2001.

During his 13 years with Team Radio, Ball called the play-by-play for the Vancouver Canucks on TEAM 1040 and served as the voice of the B.C. Lions on TEAM 1410 for nine seasons. Ball also contributed to Sportsnet’s regional Canucks broadcasts and joined the CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast team for six Winnipeg Jets games during the 2012-13 NHL season.

In 2013, Ball joined the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast booth full-time as the play-by-play announcer for the Prime West games before signing on with the NHL on Sportsnet broadcast team as the voice of the Calgary Flames in 2014.
